When the model fits

The capability gap is real. The permanent position may not be.

The business needs stronger operational leadership, but the right response may be a defined intervention, a temporary appointment, a function built for handover or a permanent role once the requirement is clear.

Business warning signs point to a real capability gap, which embedded work makes clearer before the long-term leadership structure is fixed.

The right intervention

Enter through the requirement before locking in the structure.

Sometimes a permanent Operations Manager, GM, COO or functional leader is exactly the right answer. But hiring into an unclear position can add cost, disrupt the culture and still leave the operating problem unresolved.

Fractional, interim or build-and-handover leadership puts experienced capability inside the operation immediately. The operator works the problem, establishes the real position and builds the environment a permanent leader may eventually inherit. In other cases, the embedded model remains the right structure because the business needs the capability without another full-time layer.

Good fit

The business wants operating movement.

  • Ownership is willing to make decisions and confront difficult realities
  • There is a real operating requirement, not simply a request for advice or a report
  • The embedded operator can access the people and work needed to take responsibility
  • The goal is stronger operating capability and control inside the business

Probably not a fit

The conditions for execution are not yet in place.

  • A report is wanted but implementation is not
  • Access or authority is withheld while outcomes are still expected
  • The engagement is intended to avoid an ownership decision
  • The requirement is actually a permanent full-time operating role
